Airbags

A safety device designed to create a cushion between the occupants and any hard surface during a crash. The majority of modern cars have an airbag in the steering wheel and a passenger airbag in the dashboard. However, there are also curtain airbags that drop down from above the door and side airbags that are placed in the door or the seat, both of which are designed to protect occupants from head injuries.

Whilst most inflate fully on impact, some offer intelligent airbags which inflate in stages according to the severity of the accident.

A rear-facing child seat should never be placed in a passenger seat opposite an operational airbag; the force of the explosion could seriously injure the child.
