Making an Insurance Claim

If you have been involved in any sort of accident, you must inform your insurance company - whether you intend to claim or not. If you do want to put in a claim, make sure that you have all the details that you collected at the scene of the accident (find out what you'll need here ...) and contact the claims department.

Although in the past, putting in an insurance claim meant filling out what seemed like hundreds of endless forms, most companies now will take your details over the phone and fill out a claim form for you.

Once you have let them know all the details, they may arrange to send an assessor to inspect your car, so that they can decide how much it will cost to repair it, or whether it should be written off. Any repair work will be paid for directly by the insurance company and carried out by a garage chosen by them. However, you will have to pay the excess amount dictated by your policy.
